Game Of Thrones Season 4 Episode 5
The Plot
The Spoils of War is the fifth episode of the fourth season of the popular television show, Game of Thrones. In this episode, the war is still raging on in Westeros and the forces of the Lannisters are starting to feel the heat of the Targaryen-led opposition. In fact, one of the main highlights of this episode is the battle that takes place in which Daenerys and her army ride her fire-breathing dragons into battle against the Lannisters.
Another significant part of this episode is that we see Arya continuing on her journey to Braavos in order to become a Faceless Man. We also see Jaime Lannister trying to take matters into his own hands and storming Highgarden in an attempt to retrieve some gold that is needed to pay off the Crown's debts.
The Battle
The battle is easily the most entertaining part of this episode. It is the first time that we see Daenerys’s full potential in battle, and it is a sight to behold. We see her riding atop her dragon, Drogon, and she is able to torch the Lannister's army with its flames. The special effects in this scene are on point and really bring this epic battle to life.
However, even though Daenerys is victorious in the battle, she doesn't come out of it completely unscathed. In one of the more heartbreaking moments of the episode, Jaime Lannister attempts to kill Daenerys with a spear. However, her dragon, Drogon, jumps in front of her and takes the hit. Thankfully, Drogon survives but is left injured.
Arya Stark's Journey
In this episode, Arya continues on her journey to Braavos in order to become a Faceless Man. She ends up getting into a fight with some Lannister soldiers and is eventually saved by her old friend, the Hound. It is interesting to see how much Arya has grown since the first season. She is now able to hold her own in a fight and is much more independent.
One of the most memorable parts of this episode is a scene where Arya and the Hound are traveling through the countryside and they stumble across a farmer and his daughter. The Hound wants to take their silver and food, but Arya convinces him to let them go. This scene really highlights the conflicting personalities of these two characters.
Jaime Lannister's Plan
Jaime Lannister is trying to take matters into his own hands and storm Highgarden in order to retrieve some gold that is needed to pay off the Crown's debts. This is a pretty dangerous move, as Highgarden is heavily guarded and the Lannisters are already stretched thin. However, Jaime is determined to do whatever it takes to ensure that his family stays in power.
One interesting thing to note about this storyline is that we get to see the return of Bronn, who has been absent for a few episodes. He is once again fighting alongside Jaime and is able to hold his own in the battle.
Conclusion
The Spoils of War is one of the most action-packed episodes of Game of Thrones so far. The battle sequence is incredible, and it is great to see Daenerys’s dragons in action. Arya's journey to Braavos is also interesting to watch, and we see how much she has grown since the first season. Jaime Lannister's plan to retrieve the gold is also exciting, and we get to see the return of Bronn. Overall, this is a great episode and really advances the plot of the season.
