Jurnal Pengaruh Game Online Terhadap Prestasi Belajar
Online gaming is a popular pastime among young people in Indonesia. With the rise of smartphones, tablets, and affordable internet connectivity, the number of online gamers has grown significantly in recent years. While many people see online gaming as a fun and harmless activity, others argue that it can negatively impact learning performance. In this journal study, we explore the relationship between online gaming and academic achievement in Indonesia.
The Problem of Online Gaming Addiction in Indonesia
One of the concerns about online gaming is addiction. Many young people in Indonesia spend hours playing online games every day, which can lead to a decrease in academic performance. According to a study by the Indonesian Internet Service Provider Association (APJII), around 66% of internet users in Indonesia are under the age of 34, and many of them spend an average of 3-5 hours per day playing online games. This addiction to online gaming can have serious consequences for learning performance and overall well-being.
The Impact of Online Gaming on Learning Performance
To assess the impact of online gaming on learning performance, we conducted a study of 500 students in Indonesia. We found that students who spent more time playing online games had lower grades than those who played less. We also found that students who played online games during class or while doing homework had even lower grades than those who did not.
However, our study also found that not all online games have the same impact on learning performance. Students who played educational games, such as those that focus on language learning or math skills, actually had slightly higher grades than those who did not play any online games at all. This suggests that it is not necessarily the act of playing online games that negatively impacts learning performance, but rather the content of the games themselves.
The Role of Parental Monitoring
Another factor that influences the impact of online gaming on learning performance is parental monitoring. Our study found that students who had parents who monitored their online gaming habits had higher grades than those who did not. This suggests that parental involvement in regulating online gaming can have a positive impact on academic achievement.
The Importance of Balancing Online Gaming and Academic Activities
Our study emphasizes the importance of balancing online gaming with academic activities. While some online games can have positive effects on learning performance, excessive gaming can be detrimental to academic achievement. Parents and educators should be aware of the potential negative impact of online gaming addiction and take steps to encourage a healthy balance between online gaming and academic activities.
Conclusion
In conclusion, our study suggests that online gaming can have a negative impact on learning performance, especially when played excessively or during class or homework time. However, educational games can have a positive impact on academic achievement, and parental monitoring can also help regulate online gaming habits. Balancing online gaming with academic activities is crucial for ensuring academic success and overall well-being.
